RB Leipzig set a staggering price for their prized asset and Chelsea target Christopher Nkunku. Also France and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry is apparently a massive fan of the 24 year old.
According to a report from the news outlet The Independent, the German club will only accept bids north of £100 million. However, they set this price to fend off big European giants out of a deal.
The Frenchman had a stellar season for the Bundesliga outfit in the recently concluded campaign. In 50 games in all competitions, the France international scored 35 goals and also assisted for further 19 goals. His club made their exit early in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League. But Nkunku set his footmark by performing remarkably in those 6 matches and put the European giants take note of him.
Nkunku amassed 7 goals in those 6 matches and remained one of the star performers of the UCL group stage. That 7 goal tally included a spectacular hattrick against the reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.
His meteoric rise in the footballing world caught the eye of Thierry Henry who claimed that he love to feast his eyes watching him play. However, according to the report from The Independent, he is quite happy at his current club. The Bundesliga outfit is also contended to keep him for the upcoming season. Hence the European superpowers might need to look elsewhere for players of his calibre.
Should Chelsea break the bank for Nkunku?
The Blues from West London registered interest in the Frenchman but so did Manchester City and PSG . However, if they are somehow able to decide to break the bank for Nkunku, he can be a great addition to their squad. He is a versatile player who can play down the middle or on the right side of the attack. Apart from that, his goalscoring ability is something Chelsea lack at the moment.
