Virgil van Dijk has lost his pace this season – Eamon Murphy

Sports Editor Eamon Murphy claims Liverpool have a serious concern as centre-back Virgil van Dijk has been out of form this season.

Speaking on the Stand, Liverpool’s defence has not been at their very best in this current campaign. However, forward line is making up for it.

Reds are currently unbeaten this season but Murphy is worried about their dysfunctional backline. He said :-

“But particularly if they had a defence, they seem to give a goal up every time they play.

“West Ham scored one yesterday and there’s a big question mark around [Virgil] van Dijk.

“You watched the match in the Aviva when we played Holland, you know even Adam Idah had the legs on him and he was very lucky not to give away a penalty or a goal.

“He’s lost that yard or two of pace which for him was critical.“So, they are obviously weak at the back in relative terms Liverpool but they have fire power up front.”

Reds might look to bring reinforcement in the January transfer window, as they look shaky at the back. Youngster Jarell Quansah has been introduced to first team early this season.

Growing age of their centre-backs sucha as Joel Matip and Virgil Van Dijk is also area of concern for Reds. They’ve been linked with Ajax’s Jorrel Hato and Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie.

Van Dijk’s dip in form is a serious concern for Liverpool as Murphy has identified the key issue this season. The back line lacks mobility and hence Reds will try cope with these issues to continue winning momentum.
