Virgil Van Dijk have slowed down this season, claims pundit

Virgil van Dijk

Pundit Eamon Dunphy claims Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk has lost his place his this season as Reds are struggling at the back.

Liverpool’s defensive line is not upto the mark at this moment and The Dutch International is under lot of scrutiny. Reds have started their brightly, but there problems are quite visible.

Van Dijk have been struggling to find his rhythm this season as it is quite visible by his playing attitude. Liverpool have conceded goals in first-half in almost all matches in this campaign.

Speaking on The Stand with Eamon Dunphy Podcast, the pundit was discussing about Van Dijk’s performance in last few matches. He claims that the 32-year-old have slowed down since his knee injury back in 2020.

Murphy was discussing the issue and said :-

“Van Dijk has lost a yard or two of pace. Van Dijk did transform Liverpool in many ways, and has been an outstanding central defender, but he has this tendency to put his hand up and play for offside, even when he did have the pace. But he had a bad knee injury and that is sometimes the end of you, even now it has taken a yard or two of pace off him.”

With growing age and injuries, it’s quite normal for modern football to lose their pace at some point time in their career. Virgil van Dijk might have lost his mobility, but he still has lot to offer for Liverpool.

Van Dijk is a leader and will fight back for his team this season. However after a horrific defeat against Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool will fight to bring their glory days back.
