Virgil van Dijk is too quiet to be a good leader — Richard Keys

Virgil van Dijk

Sports Commentator Richard Keys claims that Virgil van Dijk is too quiet and selfish for becoming a good leader at Anfield this season.

Like every other pundit and journalist around the globe, Keys was also making his prediction ahead of the upcoming Premier League season. The English Teams have been very busy in the summer transfer market and they’re all charged up to make a statement this term.

On Sunday, Arsenal started their season by winning the Community Shield against Manchester City. This is Arteta’s third trophy with the Gunners as a manager.(seventh in over-all)

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp will also hoping that his side would comeback from the last season’s shambolic form. Missing out on a top four finish last term was a huge disappointment for the Manager.

After Jordan Henderson’s departure, Liverpool announced Virgil van Dijk as their new club captain. However, Keys believes that the Dutch International is not capable enough to take that responsibility.

Keys is not pleased with Virgil van Dijk

Last Season, Virgil was not his very best last season and Key is not pleased to hear that he got the responsibility of the armband this term.

While discussing about the issue, Keys said :-

“I don’t think Liverpool have got a challenge in them either. The re-build was necessary, but I don’t see leaders in the team anymore.

“Van Dijk isn’t a leader. He’s too quiet – and selfish. If he plays well that’s all that seems to matter to him. And he didn’t play well often enough last season. I thought he was way off.”

However some may disagree with Key’s statement as the Dutch International has been a monumental figure for Liverpool in last few campaigns. Virgil won the every possible trophy with the Mersyside club and during that period, he has been one of the centre-backs in the world.

Virgil will be all charged up to start this campaign on a high note against Chelsea on Sunday. He’ll back himself and his team to deliver at the biggest stage again.
