WASHINGTON SUNDAR IN ASIA CUP FINALE

The 23-old-years off-spin all-rounder will replace Left-arm orthodox spinner and all-rounder Axar Patel. Axar Patel, who sustained a niggle during the Super Four stage game against Bangladesh, will be missing the finale. Hence, Washington Sundar will replace him in the much-awaited Asia Cup 2023 conclusion.

Axar Patel, who came into bat at number eight in the match against Bangladesh in the Super Four stage, batted exceptionally. Moreover, he scored 42 runs off just 34 balls, which includes five boundaries, three fours, and two maximums. He almost brought India to the verge of winning the game. However, in the 48.4 over, Axar mistimed his shot and had to depart in the delivery by Mustafizur Rahman.

As per reports, Washington Sundar, who is in the Asian Games squad, is currently in Bengaluru. However, he will be joining the Indian side for the Asia Cup soon for a short interval. He will commit himself to the Asian Games once the Asia Cup finale ends.

Sundar’s last ODI was against New Zealand in January this year, held at home. His best spell was in the second ODI match, in which he took two wickets, giving seven runs. In addition, he delivered a maiden over, and his economy was 2.33 in three overs. Moreover, Washington Sundar’s inclusion in the Indian team is tactical, as the Colombo pitch is known to favor spinners.

India has won the most titles in the Asia Cup, followed by Sri Lanka. While India has won the title seven times, Sri Lanka has clinched the title six times.
