West Ham are said to have closed in on center back Nayef Aguerd of Rennes. Moreover, the deal could be worth £30million. The Sun reports West Ham who have earned a place in the qualifier round of the European Conference League are currently finalizing the last details.

Once those small details are finalized, they could sign the Moroccan international. Aguerd has also experience in playing in the position of a left-back. Aguerd was instrumental in Rennes qualifying for the Europa League next season. They finished fourth in the league table.

Moreover, they were just three points shy of a Champions League berth. The report has also stated that West Ham moved for Aguerd last year but Rennes refused to leave the player. Though, David Moyes’ side finished seventh in the Premier League this season. He faced problems with his defence. He had less of options when his first-team defenders got injured. His key defenders missed quite some matches due to injuries.

What caught the eye of West Ham to approach Aguerd to sign him?

The Moroccan defender has played every minute of Morocco’s last seven games. He even played every match in the African Nations Cup. Morocco reached the quarter-finals of the Cup where they lost to Egypt.

If West Ham succeeds in playing the group matches of the Conference League, Aguerd could provide experience to the side in the European competition. Aguerd played in both the legs of Rennes’ qualifying round. Moreover, he scored in both the legs.

He even played in all the seven matches that Rennes played in the competition. In this competition, he faced teams like Tottenham Hotspurs and Leicester City. In his two years at the club, Aguerd played 80 times in all competitions. He has also scored seven goals with the club. Therefore, Aguerd could go on to prove an important addition to West Ham’s squad.
