WORLD CUP 2023 INCLUSIONS

The hints regarding Ravichandran Ashwin making a comeback in the World Cup 2023 are doing rounds. While Axar Patel is holding a niggle in the form of a quadriceps strain, which implies making it a way for other cricketers to fill in the space. Moreover, Axar Patel will undoubtedly miss the first two games of the ODI series against Australia. In addition, the injuries surrounding both Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel are concerning, and India has to look for replacements accordingly.

However, during the inclusion of Axar Patel’s substitute for the Asia Cup finale, India chose Washington Sundar instead of Ashwin. Many expected the veteran Ravichandran Ashwin, but Sundar was in the Asia Cup squad. While Ravichandran Ashwin’s last ODI match was in early 2022, Washington Sundar played his latest ODI earlier this year.

Talking about R. Ashwin’s inclusion for the World Cup 2023, Rohit Sharma in a press conference stated

“With the spin-bowling all-rounders, I think everyone is in the line. Honestly, (I am) speaking to Ashwin as well, I have been talking to him on the phone. So he is very much in the line. So is Washi. We want those guys who can do the job with the ball and the bat as well”

Captain Rohit Sharma further added

“I have been very clear with certain guys who can come up and play certain roles. I have been talking to everyone, I don’t want to take names. Everyone is aware of what’s happening. Nobody is kept in the dark about what we are doing, everyone is kept in the loop”
