Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic admits a move to Stamford Bridge was a shock. Chelsea signed their 24-year old goalkeeper Djordje from MLS side New England Revolution for £14m deal. The Serbian international now told Chelsea’s official website that the move to Stamford Bridge was a surprise for him. Although Petrovic needed to be patient with Robert Sanchez, his hardwork is now paying off. Owing to an injury to Sanchez, the 24-year old goalkeeper is now the first choice.

Moreover, Petrovic is doing good between the sticks. He recently saved a penalty against Newcastle United in the carabao Cup. His teammate Armando Broja said he was ‘unbelievable’ after his heroics in the game. Speaking on his move from MLS to Stamford Bridge, the Serbian said he never expected this.

I heard it would be very hard to get visas for my family. What if covid came back? I had never been to America. I heard the USA is a different world.

But it was a good opportunity. I wanted to change something, to try something new. I heard good things about Boston, a nice city to live. And I saw [Matt] Turner, the former goalkeeper they sold to Arsenal. They sent me the offer after that.

I saw they could sell a goalkeeper to Arsenal. It made me think I could do something similar and come back to Europe. But honestly, I never imagined Chelsea!”

the move of Petrovic was also a shock for the fans. After Kepa decided to join Real Madrid on a loan move, Chelsea needed a backup for Sanchez. However, this move now seems to be a wiser one given the performances by him. The supporters will be happy with the display of their backup goalkeeper.
