KL Rahul, a cricketer representing India, has been facing a difficult period in international cricket. His recent performances in Tests have been disappointing, as he has not managed to score a half-century in his last 10 innings. This has resulted in criticism from several former cricketers, who are urging the team to remove him from the playing XI immediately. During the current series against Australia, Rahul scored just 38 runs across three innings, which is not an impressive tally.
Former Pakistan player on KL Rahul over Gill
Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has also criticized Rahul, stating that he does not deserve to be in the playing XI when Shubman Gill is present in the squad. Gill has been in sensational form across all formats over the past two months, making him a strong contender for Rahul’s spot. Gill scored a century in the first Test against Bangladesh in December. He continued his impressive form in ODIs, scoring two hundreds and a double hundred in January. Furthermore, in a recent T20I match, Gill broke the record for the highest individual score by an Indian.
Although Gill had a successful career in international cricket, he was unable to secure a position in the starting lineup for the first two Tests of the current series against Australia. At the same time, Latif strongly criticized KL Rahul and claimed that the Indian team management was biased in their desire to include him in the team.
“Ye (Rahul) deserve hi nahi karte Shubman Gill ke hote hue. Bahaana kuch bhi nahi hai, bas inko khilaana hai. (Rahul doesn’t even deserve a spot in the XI when Shubman Gill is there. There is no excuse here. The management just want to play him (Rahul),” Latif on his YouTube channel.
Bhajji also has his say on KL’s performance
Rahul’s poor performance in Test cricket led to his removal as vice-captain by the BCCI. In response to this development, Harbhajan Singh, a former Indian spinner, remarked that the management now has the advantage of being able to drop him more easily since he is no longer the vice-captain.
“When you’re not the vice-captain, it becomes easier for the management and selectors to make you sit out. Once you’re a vice-captain, no matter what sort of performances you have given. you’re still featured in those eleven guys who will participate in the game.” Harbhajan said.
“But not that VC tag is not there. with KL Rahul, you know he’s a quality quality player who’s going through a dry patch where he is not scoring runs. We all know that. But I’m sure he will come good with the bat. But yes, the vc tag is not there. which means we will see Shubman Gill opening with Rohit Sharma,” he further added.
