Afghanistan may knock out either India or Pak: Ajay Jadeja

The performance of Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2022 has been spectacular. The Mohammad Nabi-led team started their campaign against Sri Lanka with a massive eight-wicket win. The team carried their winning momentum while facing Bangladesh in the next match on Tuesday. They thereafter defeated Shakib al Hasan-led Bangladesh by 7 wickets

Afghanistan has been impressive enough to catch the attention of many. One of those is the former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja moreover warned both Pakistan and India “to be wary” of the Afghans in the Super Four.

On Tuesday, while speaking on Cricbuzz, Jadeja said,

“Teams should be wary when they play these guys in Super 4s. When you play these guys in the Super 4, I won’t be surprised if they knock one of the big teams off.”

Jadeja however, considered the bowling strength of Afghanistan as their plus point. Nonetheless, he praised the batters too for playing according to the situation.

Jadeja said,
“They have the firepower, bowling everyone knows what they can do. Imagine either of the teams, India or Pakistan, is 20/2 or 30/2, then they won’t allow you to make a comeback. These guys have that ability.”

Jadeja further explained,

“Now with their batting they’ve showed that their openers can play in a certain way. So if you’re an analyst for India or Pakistan, how are you going to plan, what are you thinking? They can come and surprise you and the rest of the team surprises even more.”

Mujeeb Ur Rahman, the Afghanistan spinner has been the best among the rest of the bowlers, till now. So far, he has bagged five scalps in the two matches. Rashid Khan, the premier Afghan spinner, has however too three wickets in those two matches. Nonetheless, Rashid’s economy (4.25) has been the best in the team.

Moreover, Afghanistan batters like Hazratullah Zazai, Ibrahim Zadran, and Najibullah Zadran, have done their job too. It was against the match against Bangladesh when the Ibrahim- Najibullah duo added 69-run to the board at the fourth wicket. They scored those runs from just 33 balls. However, both of them stood not to guide their team’s win. Ibrahim made 42 runs off 41 balla. However, Najibullah trembled the Bangladesh bowling and smashed 43 runs off just 17-balls. It consisted of 6 sixers and one four.
