Ravindra Jadeja had to leave the Asia Cup, 2022 mid-way because of his recurring knee injury. He is likely to skip the T20 World Cup as well.
Indian all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja, was ruled out of the Asia Cup after his knee injury resurfaced. He had to leave the team mid-way through the tournament. He underwent knee surgery on Tuesday. It is assumed that the injury is going to keep the star all-rounder out for an indefinite period.
His availability for the T20 World Cup, 2022, is doubtful as of now. Jadeja shared a social media post where he gave an update on his surgery. He shared a couple of photos from the hospital and captioned them,
“The surgery was successful. There are many people to thank for their support and involvement – BCCI, my teammates, support staff, physios, doctors, and fans. I will start my rehab soon and try to get back to cricket as soon as I can. Thank you to everyone for your kind wishes”
Rahul Dravid is hopeful that he will recover in time.
Indian head coach, Rahul Dravid is optimistic about Jadeja’s return for the World Cup. While addressing a press conference, Dravid said,
“The World Cup is still a fair bit away, and we don’t want to jump to any conclusions and rule him out or rule him in. We’ll see how it goes. Injuries are a part of the sport; it is part of our job to try to manage them. A lot will depend on rehab and the severity of the injury. I don’t want to rule him out or don’t want to make too many comments until we have a much clearer picture and a better idea, especially because the World Cup is six or seven weeks away from now.”
The 33-year-old’s knee has been a problem for him for a while now. He was even ruled out of the West Indies tour that took place in July this year. Seems like the problem has resurfaced. Jadeja will go to National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore for rehab post his surgery. Various tests and assessments will take place before any decision is made. Currently, Axar Patel is named as a temporary replacement.
Importance of Jadeja in the Indian team
Over the years, Jadeja has developed his all-round abilities. He has transformed himself from bowling to batting all-rounder. He provides the perfect balance to the team with his excellent skills both as a finisher and as a spinner. His services are vital for the Indian team keeping the World Cup in mind.
There is no perfect replacement for him as yet. Fans will hope and pray that he recovers in time for the World Cup that will be held a few weeks from now.
