Ajax boss Erik ten Hag verdict on Manchester United job links

Ajax boss Erik ten Hag has dismissed any rumours linking him to the Manchester United head coach job.

On Sunday 21st November, Manchester United announced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s departure from the club. The decision came after a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Watford on Saturday.

Meanwhile, former Manchester United player Michael Carrick has taken over as the team’s caretaker interim manager. Carrick will be in charge until the club finds another manager for the remainder of the season.

Manchester United have been linked with various managers like Zinedine Zidane, Mauricio Pochettino, Brendan Rodgers, Luis Enrique and Erik ten Hag. Recent reports suggest that PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino is the number one target for the United hierarchy.

Ajax boss Erik ten Hag is also highly thought of by the United hierarchy on the 5 men shortlist to replace Ole Gunnar Solskaer. But the Dutch manager has denied any approach from Manchester United and has no plans to leave the Dutch champions mid-season.

Erik hag has a contract until the summer of 2023 with Ajax. He has an impressive record as the Ajax boss, winning 136 from 185 games in charge. When asked about the United links during a press conference, he said:

“Man United interest? I am busy with Ajax. No one contacted me, I can confirm this. I want to win titles here.”

My focus is on Ajax, the rest only distracts. I expect from my players that they are focused on Ajax. So I have to give the right example for that too.

“You keep asking me [about my position as Ajax manager]. Yes it is a weird question. I heard nothing about [United’s interest], so I can’t think about it.”

Next move for Manchester United?

With Erik Hag ruling himself out of the Manchester United job, the Red Devils certainly need to act fast to land a new manager at the club. PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino and Spain boss Luis Enrique have shown no interest in the United head coach position.

Manchester United have started life well under caretaker boss Michael Carrick as they secured their place in the knockout rounds of the Champions League. The red devils defeated Villareal 2-0 on Tuesday. But there are still massive doubts about Carrick’s ability to lead the club forward and get better results on the pitch. If United wants to end the 4 season trophy drought they must react as soon as possible.
