Alexandre Lacazette has a clear choice for his future destination when he departs Arsenal. According to a report from the Catalan newspaper El Nacional, the French striker prefers Atletico Madrid to Barcelona. While the rest of his suitors have an uphill battle in their pursuit of him.
The Frenchman joined Arsenal from Lyon in the summer of 2017 and has established himself as a consistent performer for the club. While the 30-year-old hasn’t been very productive year after year. His hold-up play has proven to be a reliable source of offence.
Furthermore, his chemistry with Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been excellent. The Frenchman has made 168 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 68 goals and providing 29 assists. The Gunners, on the other hand, are resigned to losing Lacazette as a free agent when his current deal expires next summer. The fact that he is due to leave Arsenal on a Bosman deal, has piqued the interest of some of Europe’s greatest teams which includes Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.
Atletico Madrid has had a long-standing interest in Alexandre Lacazette, and have attempted to sign him in the past. While they currently have the best chance of landing Frenchman.
Given that Luis Suarez is nearing the end of his career and Matheus Cunha has yet to fully settle in since joining in the summer, the interest in Lacazette makes sense. While in the hunt to recruit the Arsenal striker, though, Atletico Madrid will face heavy competition from Barcelona.
