Andros Townsend was amazed with Man City not adding a buy back clause to this player

Manchester City

Andros Townsend says he is surprised by Manchester City not adding a buy-back clause for Palmer. Chelsea signed Cole Palmer from City this summer. Luton Town winger was speaking on The Monday Night Club. He told that he was shocked why the Sky Blues did not add a buy-back clause in the deal. Indeed, the Englishman is a revelation at Stamford Bridge. Moreover, he scored an equaliser against his former employers last weekend. Owing to his last-minute penalty, Palmer now has four goals in nine Premier League appearances. The 32-year old winger said,

It doesn’t surprise me that they sold Cole Palmer, what does surprise me is that they didn’t implement a buy-back clause.

Chelsea and Man City have used that quite a bit. So to sell a young player like that with the potential that he has, even if it was £100 or £150 million, just for that potential if he does go on to the world-class level, which he is clearly capable of doing.”

Though, for a club of Chelsea’s ambition, it is difficult for them to develop a player whom they cannot snatch. If the deal had a buy-back clause, the Blues would have probably moved on. However, it is not the case and Palmer is on fire at West London. Perhaps, he is their signing of the season. They would have been even worse without him. Contrary to this, City are still the same without him and sit at the top of the table. Though, it was their academy graduate who restricted them from taking all three points from the game. Another ex-City man, Raheem Sterling was also very impressive in the fierce 4-4 draw between the two sides. The duo was a key for the Blues last weekend.
