According to The Mirror, Manchester United can see Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard leave in January. Both the players have experienced a lack of game time at United this season. Martial’s agent has previously expressed that the player wants a move out of the club. Moreover, Lingard has also struggled to get in the starting 11 despite his successful loan spell at West Ham United.
Anthony Martial has failed to get in form after his successful 2020 campaign where he scored 23 goals in all competitions. He is even struggling to get in the lineup and has barely any minutes under his belt this season. Moreover, he is also criticized for his lack of work rate and for not helping his team off the ball.
Jesse Lingard renewed himself with his loan spell at West Ham United. The Hammers wanted to sign Lingard however United and the player wanted to work together in the future. Nevertheless, even he has struggled to keep up with his West Ham form at Manchester United. As a result, he is also one of the players who can leave Manchester United in January.
United needs to get their season back on track and become a strong European side. Therefore, they need to support Rangnick’s decisions in order for him to succeed. The German manager has given a green light for both Martial and Lingard to move away from Old Trafford. The funds acquired can then be used to get the players which Rangnick likes and who have more to deliver to the club.
What does the departure of Martial and Lingard mean for Manchester United?
Ralf Rangnick has agreed to let Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard leave Manchester United in January. Both of them have not helped United much this season and are interested in leaving the club. United must recruit a few players in January to help their interim manager for a successful season. However, they will need funds for the recruitment as they spent a lot in the summer. Moreover, Martial and Lingard anyway were of no significant help to Manchester United this season. Therefore, their transfers can help United finance some of their moves for other players that Rangnick likes.
Along with Martial and Lingard, there is a possibility of some other players also leaving the club. Paul Pogba is running out of contract and there is no confirmation of a new contract therefore he is likely to leave in January. Moreover, Dean Henderson has also fallen down the pecking order as David de Gea has found his form back. As a result, the 23-year-old England international also has a desire to leave the club. However, Rangnick is not in favor of the young goalkeeper leaving United this season.
The Red Devils need to offload some of their players as soon as possible. Many players are at the club and have not played for quite some time. They should either be sold or loaned out of the club. United is simply paying the wages of players who barely make it to the playing 11.
However, Martial and Lingard transfers can help Manchester United in transferring out some more players as well. This will help them get more and more funds to invest in January. Moreover, they will be welcoming a new manager in summer and they also have to help him in summer to get some recruitments.
