Antony has been on the radar of Manchester United now. The young winger is full of skills and tricks and been a revelation at Ajax. In 32 appearances for the Eredivisie giants during the 2021–2022 season, Antony managed 12 goals and 10 assists.
His old boss Erik Ten Hag is aware of his quality. He is a talented star, and it is no surprise that he wants to bring him to Old Trafford. However, although his ability is evident, his attitude is a concern. He is known to be rash and reckless on the field at times. It was evident during Ajax’s 3-2 victory over Feyenoord that Antony is notorious for having a wild side to his game.
After scoring a last-minute winner, Antony went from hero to zero when he was dismissed for two cautionable offences. He was first given a yellow card for celebrating by taking off his shirt. before being given his marching orders for time-wasting. Former Netherlands international Rene van der Gijp called his full-time behaviour “idiotic.”
Wim Kieft also outlined about how Ajax will need to control him going forward
Such a boy cannot be calmed by a coach, in the end.
Ten Hag will of course never say that Antony behaves like an idiot, but he thinks so. In general, this behaviour is addressed in the locker room, then someone says, ‘Hey, what are you doing?’
Will This Be A Problem For Antony?
Antony is still a young lad though, and it is in fact good that he has passion. However, the passion must not cross over to aggression. Manchester United have had the problem of egos in the dressing room for quite some time as it is. Hopefully, Ten Hag and other senior members of the squad can help him through his flaws and allow him to shine in a United jersey.
