Arsenal were handed a blow in the shape of Takehiro Tomiyasu in match against Sporting Lisbon. The player suffered a season-ending injury at the match against Sporting. Furthermore Takehiro Tomiyasu have now undergone a surgery for his knee injury. He was seen leaving the Emirates on crutches. The player missed Arsenal’s 4-1 win against Crystal Palace in the Premier League. The Gunners have released a statement stating about the condition of the player. The statement read, “Tomi has had successful surgery in London on Tuesday and will be ruled out for the remainder of this season. Everyone at the club will now be working hard with Tomi, so he can join pre-season training ahead of next season.” Therefore in terms of strength this is indeed a huge blow for the Gunners. However it seems like they already have a replacement for Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Arsenal to have already replaced Takehiro Tomiyasu

The player who could be used by Arteta as a replacement for Takehiro Tomiyasu is Thomas Partey. Furthermore Partey was covering the right-back position when Ben White came off on Sunday. The Ghana international already have some experience in playing in defense. Moreover Partey have played 11 times as a right-back when he was at Atletico Madrid. However Partey could be missed in the midfield if he is playing as a right-back. But Arteta have a solution for that problem as well. Jorginho have shown that he can play fairly well in the same midfield position as Partey. Furthermore there is also William Saliba. If Saliba is out for a longtime for the Gunners, then White would be used as a centre-back. Therefore White as a centre-back, Partey as right-back while Jorginho would control the midfield.

Credit should be given where it’s due. Arsenal brought Jorginho in the winter transfer window from Chelsea. Therefore this allowed them to play with such options. Furthermore it is also great to see Partey being the master of more than one position on the field.
