Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur suffered a major blow in the race for signing Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez. Both the north London clubs were keeping tabs on bringing the youngster to their team. But now it seems it will be an unfulfilled dream for Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, as Lautaro Martínez is close to signing a contract extension.

The young Argentine boy came to the spotlight after signing for Serie A giants Inter Milan in 2018. Before that, not many knew about the talented forward as he played for Racing Club in the Argentina first division. Following his 27 goals in 57 appearances, Inter Milan paid almost 25 million for signing Lautaro Martinez.

And since his joining, Martinez has appeared 152 times for the Inter Milan side scoring 52 goals and 20 assists in all competitions. Last season partnering with Romelu Lukaku at the upfront, Martinez helped Inter Milan win the Serie A title after 10 long years. While he scored 17 goals in the 38 matches in the Italian league.

Following his top form, last season some top European Clubs lined up to sign him in the summer transfer window. And list consisted the names of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Atletico Madrid. Among which the two north London clubs were the most interested. While Inter Milan were also thinking of selling Lautaro Martinez this summer to balance their books.

But there was a change in plan as Inter Milan agreed to sell Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea for a fee of 110 million. Following this, Martinez became the main forward for the Milan side this season. While the Italian side hanged a not-for-sale board on the Argentine. And Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur were deprived of signing Lautaro Martínez.

However, both sides didn’t give up as they thought of making an attempt next summer. But now it might not be possible as Martinez will be signing a contract extension with Inter Milan until 2025. While his contract may not have a release clause which means Inter Milan can ask a high price to sell if he performs well. Following this both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have to find other options for their forward reinforcement.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur needs to focus on second option after failing on Lautaro Martinez

Arsenal have been facing problems in the upfront due to two forwards. One, Alexandre Lacazette, the Frenchman is out of form and will be out of contract next summer. Second, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the Gabonese star has failed to make an impact last season while is slow on start this season. Following this situation Arsenal targeted signing Lautaro Martinez but now it is a failed deal. However, they seemed to have a second option as they are keeping tabs on Real Sociedad youngster Alexander Isak.

Tottenham Hotspur have great firepower at the upfront whose name is Harry Kane. But Spurs have to worry about his future as he had desired to leave this season, but decided to stay at last. However, thinking about next season he might leave surely as he desires to win trophies which currently seems impossible with Spurs. And following his uncertain future Spurs kept tabs on Lautaro Martinez but that’s a dream now. So, the London club has to find a second option to that next summer.
