Despite their best efforts, Arsenal could not find a new club for Nicolas Pépé, who is currently in Limbo.
The Gunners have made several attempts to sell the player, with no apparent success. Both Middle Eastern and Turkish clubs had interest in Pépé, but they lost interest rather quickly.
The now 28-year old joined Arsenal back at 2019, for a whopping £73 million and had great potential. But sadly, the player did not live up to the expectations, as he marked during his three years with the club, just 27 goals during a total of 127 appearances.
The player had a chance to permanently move while being on loan at the French club Nice. Pepe scored 8 goals during his 28 matches in Ligue 1. However, he chose to return to the Gunners, which in hindsight was an unfortunate decision.
How Arsenal might handle the Nicolas Pépé issue
The club managed to lay off many players this week such as Kieran Tierney, who joined Real Sociedad, Nuno Tavares, who joined Nottingham Forest, and Rob Holding, who joined Crystal Palace. However, Pépé was not one of them.
The club simply has no place for the player. Just like every other player mentioned earlier, the skill and talent of Pepe is not the issue, but rather how they fit in the manager’s future plans. And the simple answer to that is that they don’t.
But unlike the other players, the Ivory Coast player is in a far more complex situation. There is no club willing to take the player, including Arsenal.
In fact, the Gunners have made it clear that they are considering terminating Pepe’s contract, instead of waiting till it’s expiration next year.
Thus Nicolas Pépé and his agent would be working ‘overtime‘ to find a solution for this dilemma, but there has been no progress so far.
