Arsenal after missing out on champions league qualification by just two points are eyeing big in this summer window. Major reinforcements this summer can ensure the club never misses out on closely competed races again.

Arsenal may very well’ve sorted their first summer transfer of the season. Closing in on a deal to sign Scottish international and Bologna full-back Aaron Hickey.

The 19-year-old scot joined the Serie A club from Hearts when he was just 17. In his 48 appearances this season for Bologna, he has scored five times. His performances this season have demonstrated his attacking attributes even being a fullback.

Arsenal for Hickey? What happens to Tierney?

The Scottish international has predictably been compared to Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson. Hickey who is an attacking left-back has earned two caps for his country, despite the competition for LB in Scotland’s squad. Well if Hickey is not the only one to challenge Robertson in the national squad. Kieran Tierney who plays for Arsenal is another Scot eyeing the position. Tierney who’s former Celtic captain has had a rough time with injury and hasn’t lived up to his potential under Mikel Arteta

When fit Tierney has impressed at the emirates by joining the likes of Saka, Smith-Rowe who are considered promising prospects for gunners. Tierney averages just 21 PL appearances per season since joining the gunners three years ago. According to a news outlet, Gazzetta Dello Sport they claim that gunners are strongly considering a move for Hickey. If rumors are right Arsenal has already submitted a bid of £21.75m.

According to reports, Arteta has been given a limited budget this summer after Arsenal failed to secure a top-four finish. This might not be correct if we look at the previous summer spending of Arsenal. Kroenke since his takeover back in 2018 has very well backed the club in summer windows. Till this day, Stan Kroenke has spent more than £350million for Arsenal’s transfer.

Arteta’s priority this summer is to bolster his attacking strength. Currently, he’s out of pure attacking options due to players leaving. Arsenal desperately needs a striker and the best fit would be man city’s “Gabriel Jesus”. Arteta before his time at Arsenal had worked with the Brazilian in the city and knows him very well.

The move for the Brazilian is also logical as he’s going to face less and less game time. The arrival of Haaland and Julian Alvarez has confirmed that the Brazilian will be a preffered option for bench only. Squad depth especially for forwards is really poor in Arsenal’s squad. Arteta can also rely on engaging academy graduates but they lack experience and may not provide that edge to Arteta’s squad.
