Arsenal edge closer to signing Fabio Vieira from Porto

If recent reports are to be believed, Arsenal has agreed to sign Fabio Vieira-the talented midfielder from Portugal. The Gunners were said to be scouting the Portuguese under-21 for some time and it is now believed that they have agreed to sign the player.

The deal is said to be worth €40million (£34million). However, this is said to be lower than Vieira’s release clause which is thought to be around £42million. The Gunners are getting a good bargain as Porto’s financial conditions are not good. Consequently, Arsenal are taking advantage of that.

Vieira recently has been linked heavily with teams like Manchester United, Tottenham, and Liverpool. The youngster had an impressive season last year. He scored 7 goals and provided a further 16 assists for Porto. However, Vieira still has three years left on his contract.

Mikel Arteta would like to improve their chances of making the cut for next year’s Champions League. Therefore, he is already down to bolstering and preparing his squad. However, this would be Arsenal’s third signing of this summer after, Marquinhos and Matt Turner. Turner is said to be confirmed at the end of this month. It is understood that since the Gunners are facing an exodus of players leaving them, Arteta would want at least a new attacker, a central midfielder, and a backup fullback.

What did Portugal’s U-21 boss have to say about Fabio Vieira’s future?

Portugal’s U-21 head coach Rui Jorge is optimistic that Vieira has a promising future ahead.

The Portuguese said,” Fabio had a good game.”

He is a very technically advanced player, he is good at defining, but he needs to improve some aspects of his game in order to become a full-fledged player. He knows this and will work on these aspects. Fabio has a great future if he sees fit. I think he wants to be the player he can be. I believe that we can meet a great player.”
