Turkish outlet Fanatik has reported that Arsenal has expressed interest in signing Galatasaray’s center-back, Victor Nelsson, this summer. However, they face competition from their North London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur. Arsenal appears to be closely monitoring the Danish international’s situation at the Turkish champions.
Amid uncertainties surrounding Rob Holding’s future at Arsenal, Mikel Arteta seems to be exploring alternative options for a center-back. Arsenal has set their sights on Victor Nelsson as a potential replacement and is keen on acquiring the 24-year-old during the summer transfer window. Nelsson played a significant role in Galatasaray’s recent triumph, winning their first league title in four years.
However, Arsenal’s pursuit of Nelsson could face complications due to competition from their local rivals. Reports from T24 indicate that Tottenham Hotspur has already reached a personal agreement with the Danish defender. The allure of playing in the Champions League just a stone’s throw away might sway Nelsson’s decision.
Arsenal and their interests
According to Fanatik’s report, Galatasaray has already received bids reaching £13.7m for Victor Nelsson. However, the Turkish club is in expectation to only consider selling him if his £21.5m release clause is met. Arsenal and Sevilla are the two clubs interested in Nelsson, alongside Tottenham’s initial interest.
Despite not being the tallest center-back, Nelsson stands just over six feet tall. However, he compensates for his height with an impressive record of winning more aerial duels than he loses. Additionally, he exhibits good defensive prowess. By rarely getting past by opposing attackers.
Nelsson’s exceptional ball-playing abilities make him an enticing prospect for both Arsenal and Tottenham. He exhibits excellent passing skills from the back and maintains a pass completion rate of 75% into the opposition’s half. As a predominantly right-sided center-back, Nelsson would provide formidable competition for William Saliba’s position at Arsenal.
Considering the struggles Arsenal were facing when Saliba was unavailable. It becomes imperative for them to secure adequate cover in the upcoming transfer window. Galatasaray will likely hope that the increased interest in Nelsson leads to a swift activation of his release clause by a prospective team.
Furthermore, Arsenal’s interest in Nelsson’s teammate, Boey, suggests that they may be considering a combined deal to strengthen their squad. Acquiring both players could potentially allow them to negotiate a favorable package.
