It has been noticed that if clubs get the same results as they did last season towards the end of their season, Arsenal could finish third with Chelsea finishing fourth in the Premier League. They are currently in the prime spot to finish fourth whereas Chelsea look set to finish third. However, if they get the same results as last season things could look a lot different than that.
The battle for the fourth spot has been a battle among the underperformers this season. Manchester United were considered as title challengers at the start of the season but find themselves in the sixth spot. Whereas, Tottenham went downhill even after winning the first three games of their season. On the other hand, Arsenal have come roaring back after a disappointing start to the season.
Former Arsenal player Martin Keown thinks that Tottenham could finish the season better than Arsenal. The Gunners have a few tough fixtures ahead of them which may or may not cost them a few points. However, if they continue this form Arsenal could come as the better side even out of those tough fixtures.
Dropping points even once in this race could be the end for Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham, and West Ham in their pursuit for a top-four place. All the clubs desperately want to play in the Champions League next season but they have to do the work this season to achieve that. There are just 8-10 games to go for each team but there is no clear winner or a clear table finisher in the league yet.
Why Arsenal will finish in the top four to secure Champions League football?
As evident, Arsenal are in a better situation than their competitors courtesy of their remarkable performances. Manchester United does not seem to be a club right now that will take their opportunities and also have a tough run of fixtures. The Red Devils are yet to face Liverpool at Anfield followed by a trip to the Emirates. Moreover, they are also yet to face Chelsea at home. Unfortunately, United are not the favorite in any of these fixtures.
Tottenham also does look strong but they are three points behind Arsenal. In addition, Arsenal have one more game in hand to increase their lead. The Gunners have incredible momentum to their side which can help them stay fourth in the league.
West Ham are also competing for the fourth spot but they have played two more games than Arsenal and are already 6 points behind them. Arsenal just have to replicate their results from last season to stay where they are. However, they are now a better side and could improve their results from last season to tighten their grip over that last spot.
The top four title race will surely be very entertaining to watch as it could down to the wire. We are nearing the end of the Premier League and we can see a lot of upsets by the end. All the clubs are expected to play at the highest level but that could be affected by fatigue. This season was surely a wake-up call to all the big clubs for the next season.
