Arsenal are in the race to sign Lucas Paqueta from Olympique Lyonnais and recent statements from Lyon tranfer chief Bruno Cheyrou will surely bring joy to the faces of Arsenal fans.

Arsenal had a decent summer transfer window as they added numerous quality players like Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko. But now they can add another attacking midfielder in the form of Lucas Paqueta.

Reason to rejoice for Arsenal fans

The recent developments are coming after Cheyrou’s latest comments. He said:

“We need to reduce the squad size.”

“In terms of departures, we will analyse offers on a case-by-case basis but the economics will come into consideration.”

“We will consider the offers with Jean-Michel Aulas and Vincent Ponsot in order to make the best decisions. I am here to ensure the best team possible, but there are other things to take into account as well.”

“We will prepare for every eventuality.”

Arsenal technical director Edu Gaspar commented on the transfer situation as well. Via TNT Sports Brazil, he said:

“I’m very cautious to speak about Lucas. I am a guy who likes him very much. He was considered the best player in the French league last season but there’s nothing. No talks. Today in his position we are very well served, and that’s it.”

In the English media, there are several conflicting reports revolving this deal. However, Charles Watts, the Goal correspondent for Arsenal said that the club registered genuine interest in the player. He also said the Emirates club outfit will bid for him soon.

Another report from The Athletic mentioned that though Arsenal admire Paqueta, they won’t go for him as they have other positional priorities. He is not the prime target as of now. Ben Jacobs said that OL will accept offers around £55 million for the Brazil international. However, he also mentioned that Arsenal won’t enter into another bidding war if other clubs enter the race.
