Sport claim that Arsenal are one of the options for Alvaro Morata next season. Morata has enjoyed a decent return to Juventus on loan, scoring 20 league goals in 67 games for the Old Lady.
Juventus though, have regressed in the past two seasons. Their impressive streak of nine consecutive Scudetto’s came to an end by Inter Milan in 2021. This year too, the title remained at the San Siro, with Stefano Pioli leading giants AC Milan to their first league title since 2010/11.
Juventus has struggled to make it to the Champions League places in both these seasons. Moreover, embarrassing exits in Europe at the hands of Porto and Villareal have put them in a mini-crisis of sorts. In this situation, they may look to rebuild their squad with younger, more energetic players. As a result, Alvaro Morata’s loan may not be converted into a permanent move.
Arsenal have had a different trajectory. Their persistence with Mikel Arteta finally paid off this season, with much improved performances. The frontline saw an emergence of some supremely talented youngsters like Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Odegard and Emile Smith Rowe.
North London Awaits Morata?
However, they lacked a reliable striker upfront. Pierre Emerick Aubamayeng and Alexander Lacazette were underwhelming, and neither would be at the Emirates next summer. Eddie Nketiah impressed in the last few weeks, but he too is on his way out after a new contract could not be agreed upon. Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus is one of the names flying around.
It seems though Arsenal are admirers of Alvaro Morata. He is a technical centre forward who can play the way Arteta wants from a number 9. Morata has already played in London for Chelsea under Antonio Conte. A return to the England capital may be an enticing prospect for the Spaniard.
He has had his issues in the past, but notwithstanding Morata can provide much-needed experience to the youthful North London side.
