English journalist Charles Watts acknowledged that Arsenal registered interest in signing Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City in the transfer window.
Arsenal finished on the 5th spot in the recently concluded Premier League campaign of 2021 – 2022. Arsenal were in a strong position to finish in the Top 4 this season. However, 5 defeats in the last 10 matches for Mikel Arteta’s side pushed them back. The coveted 4th spot went to their North London rivals Tottenham Hotspurs who will participate in UCL next season.
Injuries to couple of key players in the form of Tierney and Partey hampered their progress in points tally. Quite frankly, Arsenal never recovered from that blow and to make sure such things don’t happen further, they will look to strengthen in the upcoming summer transfer window. Various reports linked Arsenal with Man City’s Gabriel Jesus and a move to London looks imminent.
Should Arsenal go for Zinchenko
While recording content on his Youtube channel, Charles Watts mentioned Zinchenko as another Man City player linked with Arsenal. However, he also said that there’s nothing concrete advanced talks but the interest is genuine. The journalist said:
“This is a really interesting one, now Arsenal are interested in Oleksandr Zinchenko. Certainly from people you speak to up in the north, in and around Manchester City, there has been interest expressed by Arsenal in Zinchenko. Now that’s all it is at the moment – it is interest, it hasn’t gone any further than that.”
Clearly, Zinchenko is a very talented player. Other than that, he is versatile too. His original position is as a midfielder but under Pep, he ply his trade as a left back. The 25 year old already won 4 Premier Leagues and 4 EFL Cups for Manchester City. He also won the Ukranian Player of the Year award in 2019.
