Arsenal icon Gilberto Silva reveals what he knows about January transfer plans of the club. Silva said Arsenal will be looking to strengthen their midfield as priority. However, the injury concerns of their striker Gabriel Jesus may force the Gunners to search for a new target. There have been rumours of some names with the favoured position of strikers. Owing to this, Ivan Toney is the name reports suggest can break into the Emirates Stadium. Mikel Arteta may also go all out for a striker. Though Brentford’s valuation of £80m might force the Gunners to leave him.

Nevertheless, Arsenal looks to strengthen their engine in midfield after the departure of Granit Xhaka. Mikel’s plan of replacing him with Kai Havertz has completely backfired till now. Thomas Partey is very much injury-prone. Though, Jorginho has been a decent signing for them. Still they need someone who can be a long-term replacement for the Swiss international. Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa is a name most recently linked with them.

Speaking to Mirror Sport, Gilberto Silva said,

“I heard that they were maybe looking for some midfielders especially because of Partey being injured at times. I’m not sure if it’s 100 per cent going to happen but obviously, they have to be aware that this is a very short window and very specific.

You have to be like a fisherman sometimes, to grab the right player that you really need that’s going to help you to win games and to be useful for the rest of the season. Also to improve the way you play.

It’s not about sometimes bringing a player because you need [them]. Speaking to people there, Edu many times, they are working hard to have the data and what they think is right for the club in terms of targets.

‘The market is very competitive as well, sometimes you have to be fast and not lose the opportunity.
