Youngster Folarin Balogun is the reason why Arsenal didn’t engage in battle with Spurs
Arsenal only brought in Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah as reinforcements in the attack. Moreover, this doesn’t seem enough considering the packed schedule in the upcoming months. An additional signing will be ideal for the Gunners who will provide more support and depth to Arsenal. However in hindsight, considering the form of youngster Folarin Balogun, it was a good thing that they didn’t bring in another striker.
Arsenal were linked with a move for Lille striker Jonathan David rivaling Tottenham Hotspur. Fabrizio Romano reported this interest, in his CaughtOffside blog, he said:
“The Fee could be around €35-40million but also depends on the performances this season. He was on Arsenal and Tottenham list one year ago then they decided to invest on Premier League proven players like Jesus and Richarlison”
Arsenal are a long-term admirer of Jonathan David. However, they dropped this interest to make sure that Balogun can break into the first team. He has had a meteoric rise in his career and is performing extremely well in Ligue 1. The Arsenal youngster has had five goals in Ligue 1 so far. Former Gunners legend Thierry Henry has praised the youngster who has had a magnificent outing in Ligue 1. He said:
“Normally players are loaned either to another Premier League side or in the Championship….He’s now starting to score goals regularly and I’m happy for that – happy he has gone abroad. It’s especially so considering he is a Londoner, in general Londoners struggle to leave London.“
Arsenal faces the Tottenham test in the upcoming Premier League match. Arsenal have had just one defeat whereas Tottenham are undefeated in the Premier League. The winner of the match gets a boost in their quest for the title of the league.
