Arsenal Plans to Offload Midfielders in January Transfer Window

Arsenal intends to offload midfielders Thomas Partey and Jorginho. Sources close to Football Insider reveal this strategy. The North London club aims to streamline its first-team squad. This move will facilitate new arrivals for the second half of the 2023/24 season.

Arsenal’s decision to offload Thomas Partey and Jorginho is a strategic effort to strengthen the squad for the season’s remainder. They want to lower their wage bill and make room for new talent. Thereby, the club seeks to bolster its Premier League position and overall performance.

High Earners on the Departure List

Thomas Partey and Jorginho, who are among Arsenal’s highest earners, are likely to leave. Their departures would significantly reduce the club’s annual wage bill. According to TalkSPORT, Partey earns over £200,000 weekly, placing him among the top earners. Jorginho, who joined Arsenal in January 2023, earns a weekly wage of £110,000.

The Ghanaian international midfielder, Partey, has struggled with a recurring hamstring injury this season. This issue has limited his appearances for the Gunners to just five in all competitions. His last game for Arsenal took place in October during their 1-0 victory over Manchester City.

Conversely, Jorginho, the Italian midfielder, has found limited playing time in the Premier League this season. He has played only 382 minutes in 11 appearances. Jorginho hasn’t featured in Arsenal’s last five matches. The summer arrivals of Kai Havertz and Declan Rice have further diminished his role at The Emirates. Thus making his exit more likely.

A Strategic Move for Arsenal

By parting with Thomas Partey and Jorginho, Arsenal could significantly cut its wage expenses. This reduction would free up funds for manager Mikel Arteta to sign new players. The club has already set its sights on acquiring a new defender, midfielder, and striker in the January market.

Arsenal’s decision to offload the midfield pair reflects their commitment to enhancing the squad’s competitiveness for the season’s remainder. This move aligns with the club’s ambition to improve its Premier League standing and impact other competitions.

The January transfer window provides Arsenal with an opportunity to restructure its roster and address weaknesses. Moreover, the club seeks a balance between squad depth and financial stability. Furthermore, the departures of Partey and Jorginho could open doors for impactful new signings in the coming months.
