Arsenal plot double swoop for Berge and Ramsdale

Arsenal are believed to be cooking up a double deal for Sander Berge and Aaron Ramsdale of Sheffield United.

Mikel Arteta has been a long time admirer of Ramsdale. Though the goalkeeper’s £40,000,000 price tag has deterred the Gunners. They believe a sum of £30,000,000 is more practical, but the Blades seem unconvinced.

Arsenal rekindled interest in Berge after unofficial talks seemed to cool off earlier this year. Having signed youngster Sambi Lokonga, the Gunners now view Berge as a top target.

Reinforcement between the posts

With Bernd Leno’s future at the Emirates uncertain, signing a goalkeeper is one of Arteta’s priorities. The Gunners suffered a blow when top target keeper Andre Onana chose Lyon over Arsenal.

However, Arsenal are willing to table a considerable offer for both Berge and Ramsdale. The Blades might find it difficult to refuse.

Speaking after the win over Doncaster, Slavisa Jokanovic said: “If you ask me if I will sell, no. I am happy with their professionalism.

He further added”I will be hurt if they leave my team. I understand this possibility exists but I hope that will not happen.

Jokanovic added that both players are ‘happy’ in pre-season training. This would indicate that neither of them is unsettled.

The 23-year-old midfielder missed the majority of the 2020-21 campaign due to injury. The Norwegian made just 15 appearances for the Blades, scoring 1 goal and assisting another.

Liverpool, Atalanta BC and Napoli are other names showing interest in Berge. His deal at Bramell Lane reportedly has a £35,000,000 release clause.

The English side have successfully completed 3 signings so far. The season is knocking on the door. Arteta would prefer to finish one last bit of business before the campaign kick-off.
