Arsenal are weighing up a move for Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans in the summer. The Gunners have been linked with the Belgian for a long time now. Moreover, Arsenal are short on their midfield options and have targeted the 24-year-old. Tielemans wants an exit as well with multiple clubs chasing him. But Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta highly rates the Leicester player, and reportedly wants him at all costs.

Youri Tielemans joined Leicester City in 2019 and has since helped the Foxes up their game. Furthermore, Tielemans was at the centre of Leicester’s FA Cup triumph last season. Moreover, the talented midfielder scored the historic goal in the final against Chelsea to lift the FA Cup with Leicester. Brendan Rodgers considers Tielemans a crucial part of his squad, with the midfielder enjoying a healthy relationship with the Leicester manager as well.

However, Tielemans now wants to leave the club with just over a year remaining on his contract. The Arsenal target made his wish clear after putting a halt on agreeing new deal with Leicester. As a result, the Foxes now anticipate that they will have to lose Tielemans in the summer market. And accordingly, Leicester have put a price tag of £30 million on their midfield asset.

Arsenal willing to risk the Leicester man by waiting until 2023

Though £30 million seems an apt price tag for the Leicester midfielder, Arsenal have other plans. Football.London have fresh reports that the Gunners are exploring the option of acquiring Tielemans for free. Youri Tielemans would be available for nothing after his Leicester contract expires in 2023. However, the English outlet has further claimed that Arsenal have made a formal approach to Tielemans’ agents for negotiating a deal.

Mikel Arteta admires the Leicester player’s qualities and expects big things from him if joins Arsenal. Early reports revealed that Tielemans wants a step-up in his career, and thus wants to leave the Foxes. Tielemans wants to play in the Champions League, after missing out on the competition since joining Leicester. Arsenal could just provide him with the same as they are fighting for a top four finish.

But the Gunners’ new plans of waiting for Tielemans till 2023 could be a dangerous gamble. Clubs in Tottenham, Manchester United are interested in Tielemans as well, and could pounce on the opportunity to sign him for £30 million. Both clubs are in contention for Champions League football along with Arsenal, and Tielemans could well jump the boat.

Tielemans will certainly add his superior qualities to the Arsenal midfield, as is evident from his Leicester stint. However, Arsenal are inviting unwanted risk by not notching up the midfielder this summer. Only if the Gunners agree a pre-contract with Tielemans, they would be relieved till 2023. But if things don’t go according to their plans, Arsenal could lose the Leicester player to their fellow Premier League clubs.
