Arsenal are making a lot of news at the moment as the club is staring at a Champions League return. The Gunners returned to the top four after their 2-0 win over Leicester City. As Arsenal looks to play Champions League next season, Mikel Arteta wants to reinforce his squad in the summer. Moreover, Arsenal are once again ready to back their manager financially in the summer. Furthermore, Arsenal and Arteta have already identified Napoli’s Fabian Ruiz as their first target for the summer. The Gunners have recently received a huge boost in their quest of signing the Spanish midfielder.

Meanwhile, former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has explained the club’s £150 million spending spree from last summer. The former manager was in beIN Sport’s box for Arsenal’s game against Leicester. Wenger suggested how Arsenal have firmly backed their manager Mikel Arteta in the market, and the move has worked as well.

Arsenal are said to be heavily impressed with Fabian Ruiz and are ready to go all-in for the play-maker. Moreover, Fabian’s recent stance over a possible transfer favors the Gunners too. Mikel Arteta is keen on adding a central midfielder to his squad, and Fabian Ruiz currently tops the list. Moreover, Ruiz being left-footed has ticked another box of Arteta’s demands. Ruiz has proved himself as one of the most improved midfielders in recent times. However, with 18 months remaining on his current Napoli deal, the Spaniard wants to explore a new challenge.

It was being reported that Ruiz wants a return to his homeland of Spain, with Barcelona highly interested. The news may have sounded disappointing to the Gunners, but new reports from Corriere Dello Sport have instilled some hope. The Italian outfit has revealed that Fabian Ruiz will only anticipate an Arsenal move if he fails to return to Spain. Moreover, Corriere Dello Sport further reports that if Gunners come calling, he would consider their offer too before making a final decision.

The reports could well be true enough since Ruiz reportedly rejected a move to Arsenal’s fellow premier league compatriots Newcastle United in January. The Magpies bid around £42million for Ruiz but got their offer dismissed. This may well suggest Fabian Ruiz only wants Arsenal other than any Spanish giant.

Arsene Wenger gives and insight on the Gunners’ heavy spending

Arsene Wenger has praised his former player Mikel Arteta who is now at the helm of Arsenal. The Frenchman explained how Arteta received some serious financial backing from the club since they moved to the Emirates.

Wenger suggested that even he was never given a huge budget in his 22-year spell as the Arsenal manager. On asked whether Arteta has revived the Gunners, Wenger said,

“It looks like yes, I think so, yes. We still have some way to go because we were dominating in England for some time”.

He further added how the club has invested and backed Arteta to help the club return to their glory days.

“All the ingredients are there. The club has invested a lot of money for the first time since we have been at the stadium. The team is stable now in the results, his leadership looks to be accepted by the players and there is a connection between him and the team. So, all of what you see from outside is positive.”

Wenger’s comments may point towards another spending spree from the North Londoners in the summer. Arsenal have set their sights on Fabian Ruiz who currently has a market value of almost £50 million. Should Arsenal splurge that amount, Fabian Ruiz would become their second player inside 12 months who cost them £50 million. Ruiz would also join center-back Ben White as Arsenal’s third most expensive player. However, Arsenal’s possible qualification to the Champions League could dictate their plans in the summer.
