According to reports, Arsenal and Mikel Arteta have rejuvenated their interest in the Real Madrid forward Luka Jovic ahead of the summer transfer window.

Arsenal were interested to sign the Real Madrid forward in the January transfer window. After the club let go of the club captain and star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on a free transfer to Barcelona in the January transfer window. But The Athletic have claimed that Arsenal and Mikel Arteta had reservations about the striker in January and decided against signing the forward.

Luka Jovic joined the Spanish giants back in the summer of 2019 for a hefty fee of €60 million. The Serbian striker recorded an impressive 40 goals and ten assists in 93 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit. Since joining the Spanish giants, Luka Jovic has failed to cement his place in the starting lineup.

The Serbian striker has made a total of 17 appearances this term across all competitions. In this time he has recorded just one goal and two assists. (stats via Transfermarkt) The striker was signed to replace star striker Karim Benzema. But with Karim Benzema showing no signs of slowing down, it seems the French star striker will outlast the Serbian forward at the club.

According to Football London, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta thinks he can salvage Jovic’s career and is interested in signing the forward in the summer. Real Madrid have placed a price tag of £30million on the Serbian forward.

Is Luka Jovic a good option for Arsenal?

Arsenal’s French striker Alexandre Lacazette is out of contract in the summer. He has shown no interest in signing a new deal with the club beyond the summer. Alexandre Lacazette even hinted at potentially rejoining his former side Lyon in the summer. Talking about his future, Lacazette said:

“I’m in discussion with a lot of clubs, I’m open. I want to play European football” “I never cut contact with Lyon since I left. I try to go back to the club once or twice a year. Lyon know that I’m free. We’ll see”.

Young striker Eddie Nketiah is also out of contract in the summer. The young striker has also shown no interest in signing a new deal at the club. Luka Jovic could be the perfect young striker option for the gunners. On top of that, the striker is available for a much cheaper price than other young strikers on Arsenal’s list of targets.
