ARSENAL AND DOUGLAS LUIZ TRANSFER LINKS FULL STORY

According to reports, Arsenal failed to land their midfield target on the transfer deadline day. The player was Aston Villa midfielder, Douglas Luiz. Mikel Arteta was keen to add a midfielder to the squad. It was because of the injuries to Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny. However, Villa made it clear that the midfielder is not for sale.

The Gunners saw their three bids rejected by Aston Villa. The last improved bid by Mike Arteta’s side was £25m. However, Villa rejected the bid out of hand. They slapped a £40m price tag on the midfielder. However, Arsenal felt that the price tag was too high. The price tag was too high because the midfielder has only one year left on his current contract.

TRANSFER EXPERTS ARE ALSO CONFUSED BY THE TRANSFER STRATEGY OF ASTON VILLA

Sky Sports transfer experts have said there were two main reasons behind the transfer failing. According to reports, Manchester City will receive 20 percent from his potential sale. Hence, Villa wanted to make most of the money from his sale. Hence talks broke down. Another reason is Aston Villa are trying to convince the midfielder to extend his contract.

Sky Sports Kaveh Solhekol was also surprised. He said,

“Arsenal were prepared to pay up to £25m for a player who is out of contract in a year, but Aston Villa have been very firm that he is not for sale. “Douglas Luiz will not be leaving Aston Villa. That’s what the club have been saying all day – the player is not for sale.‘Some of the people involved in the negotiations are a little bit bemused because they were led to believe towards the end of last week that Villa would listen to offers.”

Villa boss Steven Gerrard has also expressed his desire to keep Luiz at the club. He said,

“I’d like to keep him, he’s a fantastic player. I’ve made that abundantly clear.

Hence, it looks like Douglas Luiz will not play for Arsenal at the moment.
