Arsenal are now very close to signing Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio in the summer transfer window, according to reports.

Gunners are having a brilliant season in the Premier League and are currently sitting at the top the table. Arteta’s side are eight-points clear of second-placed Manchester City, although City have one game in hand.

Manager Mikel Arteta will be confident of being provided necessary funds to strengthen his squad in the summer transfer window. Arsenal’s Champions League qualification looks certain for next season.

However, there have been reports claiming that Arteta is interested in signing Marco Asensio from Real Madrid in the summer.

According to Nacional, Arsenal are very close to luring Asensio to Emirates Stadium, next season. The 27-year-old will leave Real in the summer for free as his contract expires next season. Los Blancos has failed to convince him to stay.

Former Aston Villa Striker Gabby Agbonlahor will be more than happy, if Arsenal signs Asensio next season. Speaking at the end of February, Agbonlahor told Football Insider:-

“It’s exactly the sort of signing they need. Asensio isn’t playing as much as he’d like right now.

“But he’s done so many good things for a long time at Real Madrid. He gets into tight spaces, he’s a flair player.

“They are the characteristics that Arsenal will be searching for this summer. And you look at their bench sometimes and just feel like they could do with a few extra top-quality signings.

“For me, he’s perfect. If Arsenal want to stay in that title fight every year, they’ve got to add to this squad.”
