Mudryk was in prolific form for Shakhtar Donetsk, specially in the Champions League. To make the speculation more interesting, he even start liking post on social media that Arsenal were keen to sign him. In January, Gunners were in pole position to sign Mudryk as they were sitting at top the Premier League Table.

However, Chelsea intervened at the last minute to hijack the deal. Blues matched the Shakhtar’s asking price and signed him for £89m(£109m).

After months of negotiations, Arsenal missed out on the deal and they were forced to look elsewhere. Gunners signed Leandro Trossard from Brighton as an alternative in January.

The Telegraph published a report, which stated that:-

“In the early days of the January window, as Arsenal’s decision-makers were beginning to execute their carefully-laid transfer plans, there was no real concern among them that Mykhailo Mudryk would join any other club.

“Arsenal were convinced by Mudryk’s talent, and they were equally convinced that the winger wanted to join them.”

However, Mudryk didn’t match upto his reputation and has been complete failure at Chelsea. In 14 apperances for Blues, he has just provided two assists so far. In contrast, Trossard has scored a goal and provided eight assists since joining Arsenal in January.
