David Ornstein believes Arsenal will look to sign a versatile defender who can play as both side-back and centre-back in the summer.

Gunners are facing some defensive issues in the latter part of the current campaign. Injuries to William Saliba and Takehiro Tomiyasu has caused huge problems in last few weeks.

Saliba’s injury has been crucial due to Tomiyasu’s absent as Arsenal are unable to shift Ben White across into a centre-back role. Lack of cover at the right side of the defence has been a major issue.

Tomiyasu himself could have played as a cente-back if he’d been fit. His fitness is evidently something Arsenal can’t rely on, pushing the club to make some summer additions.

Speaking to FIVE, Ornstein said:-

“So do Arsenal look to bring in somebody at right-back?

I’ve heard suggestions (they could look for somebody) maybe that can also play at centre-half as well if needed. An auxiliary centre-back/right-back who can play in both, not too dissimilar to Tomiyasu.”

Due to which, Arsenal are currently monitoring RB Leipzig’s Mohamed Simakan. He has all the attributes that Gunners needs for upcoming season.

According to The Guardian, Arsenal are showing interest in Simaken ahead of the summer transfer window. Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed that the Gunners have sent scout to follow the player on multiple occasions. But there’s nothing imminent at this stage.

Simaken can play as both centre-back and side-back due to his versatility. In 34 apperances, he has scored three goals and provided eight asists this season.
