Arsenal player Gabriel Martinelli came on as a substitution for Brazil’s match against South Korea. Martinelli replaced Real Madrid‘s Vinicius Jr. with just 20 minutes left to play. Brazil displayed a phenomenal first-half performance against South Korea with them leading 4-0 at half-time. Though South Korea managed to pull one back, it was Brazil who came out as winners at the final whistle. Gabriel Martinelli is the sole Arsenal representative in the Brazilian team after Gabriel Jesus withdrew from the World Cup with a knee injury. While the Arsenal manager is busy managing Jesus’s injury time span, Martinelli continues to impress at Qatar.

The 21-year-old player didn’t have his place guaranteed at the World Cup, but he definitely haven’t looked out of place after the three appearances that he have already made. Martinelli looks right at home with his performance at the World Cup, and with this Brazil form the player will not be returning to Arsenal soon. The unity in the Brazil squad is visible, Newcastle United player Bruno Guimaraes sent him a message after the game. The Arsenal youngster posted on Instagram after the match and used the caption “Quarter finals” to which the Brazilian teammate replied “Marti show”. He has been impressing his other veteran Brazilian teammates as well. Thiago Silva have even called him a “special player“.
Brazil’s hopes in the World Cup
Despite of Brazil’s loss in the final group stage match against Cameroon in which Martinelli started, he still received a lot of praise from the fans and pundits back in Brazil. Brazil could be about three matches away from winning their sixth World Cup, they are now currently preparing for their quarter-final match against Croatia.
