Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta criticised his players after Gunners were defeated 3:1 by West Ham United in the Carabao Cup tie.

The Spaniard is not all happy with his team’s performance during Wednesday evening’s clash Carabao clash against Hammers. West Ham thrashed 3:1 at the London Stadium as Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen scored the goals for the winning team.

However, Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard scored the late consolation goal for the away team. Arteta was deeply frustrated with his team’s performance as he took responsibility of the defeat.

Speaking in post-match press-conference, the Spaniard said :-

“Very disappointed. I’m responsible for that.

“We’re out of the cup and we wanted to play a very different game. Especially we wanted to compete in a very different way, the way we discussed for 48 hours, in a very different way to what we’ve done.”

Arteta was forced to change his starting eleven in the second-half

Arteta changed his starting eleven in the second-half with likes of Jorginho, Reiss Nelson and Leandro Trossard all coming off. When asked about the changes, the Spaniard replied :-

“There are no messages to send.

“Whatever messages we send we send them with words. We don’t have to send them in a different way.

“We have tried to put a team that we believed was the best to compete today and in the right way to start the game. The game took a direction obviously because of the first goal – and we can discuss that.

“After that, we still have to see much more from the team to earn the right to win here.

“First of all, I’m disappointed in myself because I wanted play a certain way and we haven’t managed to do that.

“Every time you lose a game the pain is there. We have to use this pain for Saturday that’s for sure.”
