Asia Cup Win to the road ahead for World Cup: The heroes of India U-19

The Indian U-19 side emerged victorious for a record 8th time in the Asia Cup held in UAE. Despite a disappointing last-ball defeat against arch-rivals Pakistan, the Young Men in Blue came back strong to race to glory. However, the boys had little time to celebrate. They are on their way to living their dream of winning the U-19 World Cup.

The 17 member squad is set to begin their prep as they clash against the hosts West Indies for a warm-up match on January 9. In a recent interview Head Coach, Hrishikesh Kanitkar was asked about the players who could turn out as the match winners and even have the potential to make the cut in the senior team.

“Most of them have the talent to get there like Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Ravi Kumar and Raj Angad Bawa. They have it in them, so they should not hurry,” Kanitkar said in response.

“They need to give themselves time to develop and learn all the nuances of the game and then they have a good chance of striking it and making it big,” he added.

India has always been a successful team in the U-19 circuit. Many youngsters proved a point at this stage. They later became a part of the senior team and gained success in international cricket.

From Yuvraj Singh, Virat Kohli to the likes of Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill, the list just goes long. Hence the players will definitely be pumped up to be at their best and bring back the glory.

Team India bagged a lot of positives from the Asia Cup in UAE. The bowlers were the biggest reason behind the triumph. Himachal Pradesh all-rounder Raj Bawa was the leading wicket-taker of the tournament. Harnoor Singh was awarded the Player of the Tournament award for being the highest run-getter in the championship.

The Caribbean pitches are bouncy in nature and will definitely assist the pacers. While the batters will have to adjust to the pace and bounce quickly as the conditions will be quite different from UAE.
