‘Australia do have a ready-made replacement in Steve Smith’: Ravi Shastri

The ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy is led by the Indian team by 2-0. The regular test captain Pat Cummins flew back to Australia to be with his ill mother. Steve Smith will be the captain at least for the third test. The Aussie batsman could not trust either their sweep or their defense. Both the test matches end on the third day itself.

Ravindra Jadeja is the man of the match for both matches. He contributes both with the bat and the ball. The leading run scorer is the Indian Captain himself, Rohit Sharma. The captain is leading the team from the front.

Ravi Shastri on Steve smith’s leadership role

“Australia do have a ready-made replacement at the top in Steve Smith. And I think that will work for them. The responsibility of captaincy seems to bring that different kind of mindset. His concentration levels seem far higher, and you just have to look at his batting average as captain. It is outstanding. He is one of those players who thrives on the extra workload of leading the side,”

He further added that

“There’s also the added element of how Smith will lead Australia here. He’s got a great understanding of Indian conditions, having led here before and also all the years he’s spent playing and captaining in the IPL. He understands the tempo of cricket in India better than what Cummins would have,”

India won the toss in the third test and was elected to bat first. Unfortunately, they got bundled out for 109 runs. The wickets were falling from both ends as the ball was turning too much. The ball, dismissed Rohit Sharma turned to 8.3 degrees. However, the Aussies batted well and stretched some partnerships. But at the end of Day 1, the score of Australia is 156 for 4.
