The Barcelona board have reassured boss Ronald Koeman of their total confidence in him. He has full backing from the club despite his position at the helm being uncertain at the end of last season.

There was a lot of debate over Koeman’s future last season. President Joan Laporta looked unsure. There was a period of reflection. However, in the end Rafa Yuste, Mateu Alemany and Ramon Planes backed him.

They agreed that him staying was the best option, a club legend willing to take the reins without spending a lot on signings and utilising La Masia talent.

Barcelona feel Koeman is the ideal coach for this season. They are hopeful he can achieve success in aiming for a strong future, where things can look a bit more sanguine.

Barcelona tip Koeman as ‘man for the job’

As such, Koeman was kept informed of all the movements over the transfer window. He given the final say regarding the ins and outs. Though, for economical reasons, that excludes the Lionel Messi situation.

The Dutchman successfully delivered the Copa del Rey trophy last term. However, it was a largely disappointing campaign after that. Barcelona finished 3rd in La Liga and were knocked out of the Champions League in the round of 16.

Thus, Koeman was rumoured to be heading for an exit from the Camp Nou. Rumours even suggest that Laporta searched for a replacement before deciding to stick with the Dutchman.

Koeman reportedly handled the key departures in admirable fashion, which significantly weakened the team. The Blaugrana trust that with his positive outlook, he can devise a way to ensure they are still competitive this term.

That has scored him some valuable points with the Barca board. He is now in a strong position heading into what will be a tough challenge this season for himself and his men.

Barcelona have picked up seven points from their first three La Liga matches of the season, beating Real Sociedad and Getafe, in addition to sharing the points with Athletic Bilbao.
