Barcelona have confirmed that they have signed Ferran Torres who has agreed to a contract of five years running till June 2027. The transfer fee agreed between Barcelona and Manchester City is €55 million. Moreover, Barcelona have included a €1 billion release clause in the Spaniard’s contract.
Torres has already joined the Barcelona training camp and is the first signing after Xavi’s appointment as the manager. Barcelona wanted a forward to replace Sergio Aguero who had to retire after he faced heart problems while playing for Barcelona. Torres has recovered from a fractured foot and will make an appearance to the media after his training session.
Ferran Torres found it difficult to start at Manchester City as he had much competition and the injury did not help. Consequently, Barcelona shifted their eyes to this situation and took advantage to sign a talented 21-year-old. Barcelona is struggling with finishing chances and Ferran Torres can help them solve this problem.
Barcelona put out a statement on their official website regarding the signing which was as follows,
“FC Barcelona has reached an agreement with Manchester City for the transfer of Ferran Torres. The player has signed a contract for the next five seasons, until 30 June 2027, and his buyout clause has been set at 1 billion euros.”
“On Monday 3 January, from 11.00 am CET, the player’s presentation as a new member of the FC Barcelona first-team squad will take place in an event preceding the open doors training session at 12.00pm CET at Camp Nou.”
“Following the training session, Ferran Torres will appear before the media in a remote press conference at the Ricard Maxenchs press room.”
How can Barcelona get the maximum out of Ferran Torres?
Ferran Torres has played for Manchester City and Spain before. Barcelona can take advantage of this situation as he as played in similar systems to that of Barcelona. Moreover, he is a technically gifted player who can thrive in a variety of formations. He is very versatile and can play on the left, right or also as a left midfielder or right midfielder.
However, Barca fans are mostly excited to see him in the false-9 role. He is tactically adept and is very much capable of performing the false-9 role. Barcelona mostly plays possession-based football but Torres’ pace and directness will be a useful asset on the break. Moreover, he can also create chances with his good passing and excellent pace to beat defenders.
Barcelona have lost Sergio Aguero due to a sudden retirement forced by a heart problem. As a result, Ferran Torres can play as the center-forward performing the role of a false-9. Moreover, he can also change his position in-game and drift wide if required as he can also play as a wide winger or midfielder. He has very good positioning, dribbling, finishing skills which will help Barca score more goals.
