According to Fabrizio Romano, Marcos Alonso will join Barcelona this summer. Personal terms are agreed between Barcelona and Marcos Alonso. The transfer fee is set to be an undisclosed figure below 10 million euros. All that remains is the medical and upon its completion, Marcos Alonso will become a player for the Catalan club. Now, It is only a matter of time before the player joins Barcelona.
Alonso has had a good spell at Chelsea after his move from Fiorentina. He has been a consistent player for the club at the left-back position since his arrival. Last season, he delivered consistently in the wingback role after the injury to Ben Chilwell. Moreover, his consistent performance has not warranted him a guaranteed place in the starting XI. Now, with the arrival of Marc Cucurella, it is likely he will fall down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge. Now, Alonso is in the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge and amidst worries about his future, Barcelona has offered him a contract at Nou.
Barcelona lacks a tried and tested left back in their squad. Xavi only has Jordi Alba at his disposal in the fullback position. Alejandro Balde is a promising prospect. However, he has not yet established a foothold in the Barcelona first-team contract. Alonso will be a great option for a fullback. The 31-year-old has a tally of 29 goals and 23 assists in 211 appearances for the West London club. Moreover, he also has experience in La Liga as well because of his stint with Real Madrid as a youth player.
Barcelona will announce the transfer very soon.
The 2021 season made it very clear that Barcelona will need a left-back if they are to challenge for the title this season. Alonso had emerged as an option for Barcelona very early in the transfer window. However, Chelsea were reluctant to let him go this summer because of the unavailability of a left-back. However, following the signing of Marc Cucurella, Chelsea have let go of Alonso and the player will be announced very soon.
Thomas Tuchel excluded him from the squad for the match against Everton. Tuchel even stated that this was because Alonso asked to be left out of the squad to avoid any injury issues. Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, it is only a matter of time before the Spaniard returns to La Liga to make his second debut with Barcelona.
