Barcelona have allegedly emerged as shock contenders to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United this summer.
The Portuguese forward is trying to leave United as they have failed to qualify for the Champions League and have also failed to sign new players in the transfer window till now.
CRISTIANO RONALDO AND BARCELONA TRANSFER LINKS FULL STORY
The Red Devils welcomed the 37-year-old back at Old Trafford for a second spell last year. However, as a team, things didn’t work. The club only managed to qualify for Europa League. In spite of the owners appointing Erik Ten Hag, Ronaldo reportedly wants to leave the club in the current window. He fears, he will not be able to fulfill his silverware ambitions at Old Trafford.
However, Manchester United have no intention of selling him. Although, it seems a weird transfer link has popped up in reports. According to reports, Barcelona are interested in signing the Portugal international. This is in spite of his legendary status with bitter rivals Real Madrid. Ronaldo spent nine years at Madrid and scored 450 goals for them.
MANY MORE TEAMS ARE BEING OFFERED THE OPPORTUNITY TO SIGN THE FORWARD
The report states that Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes met Barcelona president Joan Laporta. It also states during the meeting the pair floated the idea of a sensational switch to Camp Nou. Barcelona president Laporta allegedly wanted to bring the forward in 2021. However, Barcelona long-running financial problems made it impossible to sign Cristiano Ronaldo. This is amid the links of Barcelona having difficulty in signing Robert Lewandoski.
However, Barcelona are said to be behind the queue in signing him. The report claims Chelsea are ahead in the race. Todd Boehly wants to start his new ownership at Chelsea by signing the star forward. Bayern Munich are also interested in signing the forward. Ronaldo is currently on a break from training due to family reasons.
Manchester United are still trying to convince him to stay. Ronaldo believes the club needs to make at least six new signings to compete for silverware. However, the links of Barcelona and Cristiano Ronaldo are absurd and weird. Although, weird things have happened in previous transfer windows.
