Barcelona wonderkid Pedri signs new 5-year deal

Barcelona wonderkid Pedri signs a new 5-year deal to keep him at the club until 2026. The new deal has a One Billion euro release clause.

Pedri’s contract was due to expire next summer. Although Barcelona had an option to extend the contract for another two years. Pedri was one of the lowest earners at the club.

Since signing from Las Palmas in 2020, Pedro Gonzalez ‘Pedri’ has emerged as one of the world’s most exciting talents. In his first season played 53 games for Barcelona. The Barcelona midfielder played a very important part in Spain reaching the semi-finals at Euro 2020. Pedri was named the Young Player of the Tournament and was also named in the Team of the Tournament. And played a big part in Spain winning a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

This new contract comes as a huge boost for Barcelona and the fans of the club. With Barcelona still under enormous debts and having lost star players like Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann in the summer.

New era at Barcelona awaits for Pedri

Barcelona will be certainly hoping the new generation of players at the club can step up and fill in the big boots left behind by the likes of  Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann. The group of youngsters hoping to lead a new era at Barcelona, includes the likes of Fati, Gavi, Sergino Dest, Eric Garcia, Ronald Araujo and Nico Gonzalez.

Pedri will sign the contract in a private ceremony in the president’s office before a photo session and a press conference tomorrow.

Liverpool were reportedly interested in Pedri. But he has committed his long term future to Barcelona. The new One Billion euro release clause will fend off interest from European giants like Manchester United, Manchester. City, Paris Saint-Germain.
