Bayern Munich outplayed Barcelona again with a 3-0 scoreline

Bayern Munich again found a way to humiliate Barcelona, as the German giants beat the Catalans 3-0 in the Champions League opener. All along with the match, it seemed Barcelona were playing in fear remembering how Bayern toyed with them last time.

Both the team last met in the quarter-final of the Champions League, 2019/20 season. And Bayern Munich brutally thrashed Barcelona with an 8-2 scoreline. Even Catalans little magician Lionel Messi couldn’t save the day for Barcelona.

And this time there was no Messi who could have gone for revenge from the German side. While the team literally missed the Argentine on the pitch last night as Bayern Munich became the winning side. However, it was not a brutal thrash like 8-2, but Bayern managed to score 3 goals against the trembling Barcelona side.

Barcelona 0-3 Bayern Munich: Starting XI

Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman chose to apply the 3-5-2 formation while the Catalans usually play 4-3-3. Between the sticks, there was the great German Marc ter Stegen. Moving to the defensive line their was Ronald Araujo, Gerard Pique, and new signing Eric Garcia. In the midfield, there was experienced Sergio Busquets, with an advanced line consisting of Sergi Roberto, Jordi Alba, Frenkie de Jong and Pedri. And in the attacking position, there was Memphis Depay and Luuk de Jong who made his debut for Barcelona.

Talking about Bayern Munich, Julian Nagelsmann fielded 4-2-3-1 formation for his debut Champions League match for the German side. There is no question who started as a goalkeeper, yes it was Manuel Neuer. Getting into the defensive line their was Alphonso Davies, Niklas Sule, Dayot Upamecano, and Benjamin Pavard. Moving to the midfield their was Leon Goretzka, Joshua Kimmich and in advanced position Leroy Sane, Thomas Muller, and Jamal Musiala. And playing as the main striker there was the goal machine Robert Lewandowski.

Barcelona 0-3 Bayern Munich: Match Review

Starting of the match Bayern Munich seemed dangerous as they were seeing more of the ball and counter-attacking. While the Barcelona side was set back with Bayern’s high field as they were seeing defending most of the time.

However, despite having several opportunities and high pressing game Bayern could get past Ter Stegen who held his feet strong at the goalpost. The German goalkeeper was also helped by his defense mainly Araujo who kept intercepting long balls. While the defender also managed to intercept short passes from Bayern.

But the Catalan defense couldn’t hold Bayern attacks any longer as they conceded a goal in 34th minute. The ball came to Muller’s feet who took a shot at the Barcelona goal and Ter Stegen was beaten with a deflection coming of Garcia.

Barcelona players were already lost on hope and the goal shattered them more. And continuing the game the score was 1-0 at the half-time. Starting off the second half it was the same story as the first half. Bayern controlled the game with more possession in their feet and counter-attacking. However, Barcelona tried to go forward but failed to get past Bayern’s strong defense.

In 56th minute, Lewandowski scored Bayern’s second goal as he placed a simple tap in. And now Barcelona trying to make an impact in the match substituted two young players in the match, Gavi and Demir. However, despite both showing great performance couldn’t help Barcelona score any goal.

And moving into the last stage of the match, Lewandowski scored the third goal for Bayern and his brace in the 85th minute. Following that Barcelona’s hope of a comeback was lost. And with the final whistle, Bayern Munich won the match with a 3-0 scoreline.
