Paul Wanner is one of the most talented young players across Europe currently. He burst into the center stage in a match against Borrusia Mönchengladbach in 2021. He is one of the best young attacking midfielders in the world currently. Consequently, Bayern Munich are doing everything they can to ensure that Wanner realizes his full potential. Currently, he is seen as the long-term replacement for Thomas Muller in the Bayern Munich squad.
Now, Wanner’s development is one of the priorities for Bayern. The best way for young talent such as Wanner to develop is to get playing times in professional matches. However, Bayern has a good depth and quality in the forward department. Hence, Bayern are considering the idea of deploying him as a wingback or as a left-back. With a formal plan and structure in place, efficient execution is all that remains to be done.
Bayern Munich’s plans for Wanner
“The management of Bayern Munich is following a clear plan for Paul Wanner in order to make him fit for the Bundesliga. In the next few games, Wanner should build his rhythm & fitness by playing for the U19s in the Youth League & for FCB II in selected Regionalliga games.
When Wanner would reach full fitness — starting from September — he’s expected to become a serious alternative for the first team, with mid-week games starting to pile up. In order to give him game time, the coaching staff figured out a plan.
Since the attacking positions are fully occupied, Paul is set to get his minutes as backup for Davies at left-back as he’s two-footed & can cross the ball with his left. Playing at LB would also allow Wanner to go into duels & strengthen his fighting spirit. In the long term, Paul is internally seen as a mini version of Thomas Müller.”
