As per recent reports, Bundesliga club Bayern Munich are showing interest in Leeds United midfielder, Raphinha. The German club are looking for a suitable replacement for Kingsley Coman who is set to leave next year.

Raphinha is currently working under manager Marcelo Bielsa and is the Whites’ talisman. The Brazilian has risen to glory recently in the Premier League and is highly underrated. His skills and speed have attracted many big clubs including the likes of Bayern and Liverpool.

Kingsley Coman’s current contract with Bayern Munich expires in June 2023, and the Frenchman is looking for a move outside of the Allianz Arena. The winger has scored 46 goals and registered 52 assists in 217 appearances for Bayern. (stats via TRANSFERMARKT)

Raphinha’s rise through the ranks

The Brazil international joined Leeds on 5th October 2020 for a fee of around £17 million. Two weeks later he made his debut as a substitute against Wolves. After few games, and bagging decent minutes, Raphinha scored his first goal for the club in a 1-0 win against Everton.

Since then, the 25-year-old winger has become the team’s most nailed player. His contributions have been essential in Leeds’ success in the 2020/21 season. Playing as a right-winger, the Brazilian is the team’s set-piece taker. His ‘Brazilian flair’ makes him one of the most dangerous dribblers in the Premier League. In 47 appearances for the Whites, he has 14 goals and 10 assists. As of this season, he has 8 goals and 1 assist. (stats via TRANSFERMRKT)

Even though the 25-year-old player does not pack a huge stat pad, his dribbling and movement have been praised by many. His playing style won him his first international cap this year. In 5 appearances for his country, the winger has secured two goals and two assists.

Raphinha could be a viable replacement for Coman at Bayern Munich

Struggling with proper game time, Kingsley Coman is in speculations for a move away from Germany. Several clubs have shown interest in the player namely FC Barcelona, Chelsea, and Manchester United. Out of the aforementioned, the Catalans are the favourites to sign the winger.

Leeds will be demanding a figure in excess of £40m, double the amount they paid Rennes for the Brazilian, if Bayern approaches to sign Raphinha. However, taking into consideration the English side’s current form, Leeds would not budge to cash in Raphinha. The player is the team’s driving force and Bielsa would be eagerly hesitant to sell his best man.
