Although they have not yet announced the official schedule. They have slated India to host the ODI World Cup in October-November. The Narendra Modi Stadium, with a seating capacity of over 100,000, is an ideal venue to host the final of this marquee event. Furthermore, the stadium will host not only the opening match of IPL but also the final.

According to a recent report, they are likely to award the hosting rights for one of the semi-final matches in the next World Cup to the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, which hosted the 2011 ODI World Cup final. However, according to the same report, they may hold the highly anticipated India-Pakistan game in either Chennai or Delhi.
